Our Management Associates literally run the company, first as apprentices to our most senior existing managers and quickly as direct managers of their own piece of Bridgewater. Management associates are exposed to discussions of our major management challenges and have the opportunity to effect immense change from Day 1. Those who succeed swiftly find themselves in positions of significant responsibility. Due to Bridgewater's meritocratic and open culture, success is measured completely by one's own ideas, talents and abilities.
We view our managers as facilitators of change and innovation rather than enforcers of strict procedures or hierarchies. Managers are responsible for achieving excellent outcomes through powerful collaboration with their teams. Problems surfaced through open and honest exchanges lead to group discussions where diverse perspectives and intense, but rational, arguments produce a deep understanding of those problems and the most effective solutions, managers then see these solutions through their implementation and feel the impact of their ideas.
Management associates study, apply, and critique our management philosophy, which is learned through hands-on management experience and apprenticeship, as well as through exposure to a class on Management Principles taught by our Founder and President, Ray Dalio. Through both on the job and in-depth formal training, you will learn how to:

- Manage and develop people
- Accurately measure success and create sustainable management structures by leveraging systematization
